EMS Awards from the South Dakota Emergency Medical Technicians Association

    This award is available to any EMT in the state of South Dakota.  It is awarded for outstanding service in the field of emergency medical services in the state of South Dakota. Each district in the state if permitted to nominate one recipient. Submissions must be made by August 15 of the year to be awarded at the Annual Fall Conference.      This award is available to any emergency medical service in the state of South Dakota. This award is made in memory to Susan Schuurmans who was the SDEMTA president in 1988.  The award in made by Susan's family to a service needing equipment for a certain purpose.   The amount of the award varies, but in 2009 was $225. Submissions must be made by August 15 of the year to be awarded. Wall Ambulance was the 2009 winner

    This award is presented annually and is selected by a committee from amongst nominations submitted by a rescue or ambulance squad or by a member on behalf of same.  The 2009 winner was the Marshall County EMS.  

This award is presented annually to a SDEMTA member who, in the opinion of the SDEMTA President, has been instrumental in furthering the goals and objectives of EMS in South Dakota and who is an active member of the SDEMTA. The 2009 winner was Gary Meyers.

This $500 scholarship is presented in memory of Paramedic Gary Goertz who was killed in a MVC involving his ambulance.  It is presented to a student attending a paramedic program by the Freeman Ambulance Service. The 2009 winner is Kimberly Leiden.
